Summer Nights

I am loving the summer nights SF has bestowed on us lately. For some reason, the warm breeze drafting in my tiny bedroom comes with waves of nostalgia and creativity. Begging me, forcing me to share my heart, my feelings.

My room reflects the perfect weekend, littered with clean and dirty laundry, hair ties, sandals, sunglasses, two empty Tejavas. All remnants of a weekend spent in the sun, my stuff hastily thrown around in the rush to enjoy every minute of sunshine and you this weekend. I sit on the wood floor, with a glass of wine, listening to the sounds of the city. Listening to my neighbors finish up the dishes and head to bed. Listening to the rare stillness of the busy apartment I share.

I cannot believe it is only 10PM, as the weight of a long day bares down on me.

I cannot believe after four cold months, this warmth has entered my life once more.

Four months of chills, gray skies, rain.

Four months of loneliness, sadness, darkness.

I am not naive. I know the hot days and warm nights are numbered. The sunshine that kisses my skin, wraps me in warmth and happiness is temporary. The rain will come again. The chill will return.

Like you, San Francisco is a fickle creature. But it is these warm summer nights that will forever keep me around.

I Dream of Music and Bottles of Wine

21 hours away from frolicking in Golden Gate Park, with a glass of wine, and good friends...

I do not think I could accurately convey the hell my life has been this week. Or how much I need this weekend to get here.

Ranger Dave better have a case of wine waiting for me when I arrive.

Here are Saturday's picks:

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, 12:25 PM Lands End

Going to be an "early" morning on Saturday... but I can't sleep through this. I actually had a terrible bad dream last night I missed Macklemore... setting five alarms.

The Vaccines, 2:10 PM Twin Peaks

Recently discovered this band. I dig 'em.

OK GO, 3:15 PM Lands End

Known for their crazy videos, I am curious what their live show will be like... do you think they will perform on treadmills?

Christina Perri, 4:30 PM Panhandle

Jar of Hearts girl. I don't care how cheesy or mainstream it is to like her, because I love her.

She sings my emotions. (yes, I know how terrible that sounds)

Arctic Monkeys, 4:45 PM Lands End

You think they will sing the San Francisco song???

The Black Keys, 6:15 PM Lands End

OMG OMG OMG! This may be the band I am most excited to see. I am going to be super-groupie-esque and try my best to get backstage. I will also be singing along to every word and perhaps crying.

You should avoid me during this set.

Muse, 8:10 Lands End

Muse reminds me of the ex-boyfriend who introduced me to them and frankly those aren't the best memories. But, by all accounts, they are THE band to see live. We'll see.

Tomorrow get here! Emails disappear! Just a few more hours...

The Return of SF Music Chick

Alright hipsters... I suck. I know.

It has been so long. My excuse? My real-world job taking over my life. Also, the intense grief I have been experiencing since saying adios to the man I love. Sigh.

I am sorry I haven't provided the wit and daily dose of music you all crave for weeks.

Well, I am back. And just in time for Outside Lands 2011!

Over the next three days, we will be reviewing my top picks for the festival this year... starting with Friday, Fridayyyy.

The Joy Formidable, 1:10 PM Sutro Stage

If you know me well at all, you know that one of my favorite phrases is, "OMG, this is like, my new favorite band everrrrr!!!!"

Well, that is how I feel about The Joy Formidable. I am stoked to open up the weekend with them. Also stoked it gives me a legitimate reason to cut out of work at noon on Friday. Or maybe semi-legitimate?

Foster the People, 3:40 PM Sutro Stage

Honestly, I am a newbie when it comes to Foster the People. But I have heard great things, and their music sounds great.

MGMT, 4:35 PM Lands End Stage

Mainstream, but I could care lesssss.

Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah, 5:25 Twin Peaks Stage

This band just makes me happy. I can't explain it.

Best Coast, 7:50 PM Panhandle Stage

OMG OMG OMG soooo excited. I feel like the members of Best Coast and I could be BFFs. They just, GET ME.

I also feel like I could write a Best Coast song: cry about your best guy friend you are in love with, add a lyric about being lazy, and talk about being stoned. Voila!

The Shins, 8:40 PM Twin Peaks Stage

I will cry if they play this song. And my life will be complete.

So ya. That is where you can find me on Friday.

Need a playlist fot the day? Got you covered:

It's a Brand New Day

Last night I had an INCREDIBLY vivid dream that I met Lil' Wayne backstage, and we instantly fell in love.

I think that is a pretty good sign that things are going to start to look up for me...

When Moving On Sucks...

1. Those moments when something happens and you get that urge... that BURST of wanting to call/text them whatever fabulous just happened to you... Who else is going to get how cool it is that 12 people liked a comment you made on Tech Crunch today?! Or the great irony of Myspace Tom tweeting you back?!

2. When telling a story about what you did over the holiday weekend to coworkers, you realize midway through you are using "we" instead of I. Fumbling, you change to I.  Damn. No more "we".

3. Work suddenly moves by reallyyyyy slowlyyyy when your gchat partner in crime is no longer speaking to you. His status is green... but do NOT initiate.

4. Moving on sucks when you are sick. Like Valentine's Day, being sick is a great reminder you are alone in the world. Make your own soup, damnit.

5. When your iPod is on shuffle and you have a 45 minute bus ride to kill. Every song WILL remind you of him. And you will have 45 minutes to ponder what went wrong.

6. Moving on sucks when you don't have the luxury of putting 2,000 miles between you and the other person. I guess because I did it once, doesn't mean I should do it EVERY time I get dumped.

7. Weekends. At least one night was usually dedicated to dinner out, wine, and cuddling. Suddenly, the weekend ahead looks sort of empty. Kinda like your heart. #ouch

8. When you have to stalk their Twitter/Facebook/G+ to see what is going on in their life... "Oh, looks like he went camping last weekend..." Yah, you are creepy as fuck.

9. When you are horny... you are so not up for a random (yet) and the loneliness seems to aggravate it. Ryan O'Connell's post was never so relevant!

10. And finally, moving on sucks when you love someone. And you really do not want to move on. No matter what the Rascal Flatts song says.
